The way you do science should have an intrinsic beauty to it.
Elizabeth Blackburn Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2008
If I were to ask you to describe the yellow Gerbera Daisy in the picture how would you go about it? Would you describe its radial symmetry, its petals, or its dark center? In my opinion, the way we would answer that question defines our approach to science and view of the world. I see that daisy as complex and beautiful; its beauty emerging from its complexity. I view science and the world in the same way, beautiful and complex. I despise simple explanations because the nature is complex; therefore, by giving a simple explanation of that daisy we would disregard other parts that makes it up. For example, if I describe its petals only, I would describe a different flower without black center. If I were to describe its radial symmetry, I would describe multiple flowers at once, not this specific daisy.
The best material model of a cat is another, or preferably the same, cat.
Norbert Wiener
My vision is that nature is inherently complex. From that complexity beauty emerges. To refer to Norbert Wiener's quote, the best way to explain what is a daisy is to use a daisy. If I want to descirbe a family of different types of daisies then I better use multiple daisies within that family to describe the family itself. Whenever, I want to explain a phenomenon I should use the phenomenon itself. Therefore, I believe that when doing science I should focus on its inherent complexity and the processes by which that complexity becomes beauty however absurd its complexity is.
Practicum
Activities and Responsibilities.
My practicum involved assisting during lab activities in the Psychology Department and do study sessions for students in Natural Science class at LCC International University. I was responsible for preparing the lab materials for Natural Science and Cognition labs. Moreover, I was responsible for assisting the students during those lab activities. Additionally, this involved, at times, preparing a presentations on a specific subject to explain an idea in a practical manner to aid the students. Each week, I was responsible for leading study sessions for students in Natural Science class.
Goals
- Apply and strengthen technical knowledge and practical skills .
- Develop practical abilities to work and cooperate with people.
- Adjust and function well within a professional network.
- Show initiative
- Learn how to help other students better.
Special Project
As my special project for practicum I prepared an online experiment that determines the audiogram of the participant. For more information, follow this link Special Project. For the experiment, Audiogram.
